Business Spotlight
Guelph Skating Club
This week’s Business Spotlight is Guelph Skating Club, a local organization helping kids and families get ready for the fall skating season. With fall programs starting this Saturday and registration closing soon, it’s a timely pick for parents looking at activities like CanSkate, figure skating, or skill-building on the ice. As colder weather gets closer, it’s a great reminder that skating season in Guelph is just about here. You can check them out here on their website.
Spot of the Week
This week’s Spot of the Week is Fixed Gear Canteen, a restaurant, bar and patio in Guelph’s Junction neighbourhood.
Located at 5 Edinburgh Road South, it’s a great September pick for wood-fired pizza, wings, tacos, craft beer, cocktails, trivia nights or a casual patio hang before the weather turns. With weekly food specials and a laid-back local feel, it’s an easy spot to keep in mind for lunch, dinner, drinks or a low-key night out. Click here to check them out on their website or here on their Instagram.

Big housing decisions are on deck — Council’s planning agenda includes several major proposals, including Baker District towers, new units on College Avenue East, Arkell Road, and a large Clair Road West proposal.
City staff oppose a major affordable housing plan — Staff are recommending council refuse a Clair Road West proposal with 940 homes, at least half of them affordable, citing employment-land and environmental concerns.
E-scooter injuries are rising — Public Health says 27 people went to Guelph’s ER last year for e-scooter injuries, up from 12 in 2022. Officials are urging riders, especially kids and teens, to take helmet and speed rules seriously.
Evergreen Seniors Centre reopens — The Evergreen Seniors Community Centre reopens Sept. 9 after accessibility upgrades to washrooms, change rooms, showers, entrances, and program spaces.
Sunny Acres is getting a splash pad — The nearly 80-year-old Sunny Acres wading pool will be replaced with a splash pad in 2028, with design work starting first.
Property tax payment deadline is coming — Homeowners who want to join most pre-authorized tax payment plans need to apply by Sept. 15, or the plan won’t start until January.
