Business Spotlight

Speed River Paddling

This week’s spot of the week is Speed River Paddling. With summer finally arriving and warmer weather in the forecast, it’s the perfect time to get out on the water. Located along the Speed River, Speed River Paddling offers canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals, making it one of Guelph’s most unique outdoor experiences. Whether you’re planning a family outing, a date, or just looking for a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, there’s no better time of year to check them out. Take a look at their website or Instagram here.

Cafe of the Week

This week’s spot of the week is Flow State Bike Co.. With cycling season in full swing, there’s no better time to get your bike tuned up and ready for summer. Whether you’re hitting local trails, commuting around the city, or planning longer rides, Flow State Bike Co. is a great local shop for bike sales, repairs, accessories, and expert advice. If your bike has been sitting in the garage all winter, this might be the week to dust it off and pay them a visit. Check them out on Instagram here.

Around Guelph This Week

Guelph water bills are changing — Starting this month, water bills will come directly from the City instead of Alectra. Residents will now get separate bills for electricity and water.

Downtown traffic changes continue — St. George’s Square has been reconfigured with stop signs replacing traffic lights, while Wyndham Street construction continues downtown.

More paving starts in the north end — Work is underway on Inverness Drive, Islington Avenue, and Glenbrook Drive, with lane reductions expected for several weeks.

Silvercreek Skatepark is getting a water fountain — Construction started June 2 on a new water fountain and bottle-filling station. The skatepark stays open, but part of the nearby trail will be closed temporarily.

Niska Lands decision meeting is coming up — Council will review plans on June 9 to redesignate part of the Niska Lands as open space and parkland.

City wants input on naming parks and streets — Guelph is asking residents to help shape how City places like parks, streets, and public spaces are named in the future
