Around Guelph This Week

New Highway 7 moves another step forward — Ontario has begun acquiring more land for the long-planned highway between Guelph and Kitchener, though construction dates remain unclear.

Guelph approves its tallest apartment building — A 24-storey development with 415 rental units and five townhouses has been approved for 70 Fountain Street East.

College Avenue closure starts June 22 — College Avenue West will close between Borden Street and University Avenue for construction.

Transit detours begin next week — Route 12 Delhi will be detoured from June 22 to July 6, while a Route 8 Janefield stop remains closed until July 27.

Shelter policies could face a review — A Guelph councillor is asking Wellington County to review shelter admission rules and barriers after City Hall stopped serving as an overnight warming and cooling space.

City reviewing the future of green-bin waste — Guelph is considering new options for processing organic waste once its current contracts expire in 2028
