Business Spotlight
Royal City Nursery
This week’s Business Spotlight is Royal City Nursery, a longtime local garden centre helping Guelph get ready for fall. With cooler weather settling in, it’s a timely stop for mums, fall planters, seasonal décor, trees, shrubs and advice on preparing your garden before winter. They’re also taking part in this weekend’s Fall Rural Romp, making it a great week to visit, browse the fall colours and support a local business rooted in the community. Spot of the Week
This week’s Spot of the Week is Royal City Brewing Oktoberfest, happening this weekend at the Royal City Beer Hall. Running Friday to Sunday, the event brings together craft beer, Bavarian-inspired eats, live music and community vibes. Friday and Saturday are ticketed, while Sunday is a family-friendly day open to everyone. It’s a fun fall pick for anyone looking for a local drink, a bite to eat, and a festive reason to get out this weekend. Get more information here.
Around Guelph This Week
South End Community Centre is still coming this fall — The long-awaited $121M facility is still expected to open this fall, though the City has not announced a firm opening date yet.
Speed River Bridge closes Sept. 28 — Speedvale Avenue East at the Speed River Bridge will fully close for about 4 to 6 weeks, with no eastbound or westbound through traffic.
Check your voter info before cards are mailed — Guelph voter information cards are expected to be mailed near the end of September. Residents can update or add their info until Oct. 9.
The Ward gets heritage protection — Council has passed a bylaw designating the Ward Heritage Conservation District, with an appeal deadline of Oct. 19.
COVID outbreak at Guelph General — Five patients on the 4 West unit have COVID, with the unit closed to most visitors while outbreak measures are in place.
Sleeman Centre gets some TV buzz — Filming for season two of Heated Rivalry has started in Guelph, with production activity spotted around the Sleeman Centre.
Hope House gets a major grant — Hope House Guelph received $157,600 to expand its therapeutic horticulture program for people facing poverty, isolation, mental health challenges, or trauma.
