Business Spotlight

The Olive Experience

For anyone who loves cooking, hosting, or finding a good local gift, this week’s spotlight is The Olive Experience. This specialty olive oil and balsamic shop recently relocated to Gordon Street and is a great place to browse if you’re looking for something a little different. You’ll find premium olive oils, balsamics, gift ideas, and plenty of options for anyone who likes to make simple meals feel a little more elevated. With Mother’s Day coming up, it’s also a solid spot to check out for a local gift that feels thoughtful without being overdone. You can take a look at their website here or Instagram here.

Around Guelph This Week

Major Wyndham Street construction underway downtown

If you’re heading downtown this week, expect some disruptions. Wyndham Street is currently closed between Wellington Street East and parts of Cork Street as part of a major infrastructure upgrade. The work includes replacing aging sewer and water systems—some over 100 years old—and improving roads, sidewalks, and cycling infrastructure.

There was also a temporary closure at the Wyndham and Farquhar intersection starting April 27, with short-term impacts to traffic and transit routes.

Pedestrian access is still open and businesses remain accessible, but drivers should plan for detours and extra time when travelling through the area.

Diana Downtown has reopened with a new owner

A familiar downtown favourite is back. Diana Downtown officially reopened in April with a new owner, while keeping the same familiar food and feel that many Guelph locals already know and love.

New downtown comic shop is open

Long Box Silver’s Comics & Collectibles is now open at 137 Wyndham St. N. The new shop brings comics, collectibles, and a bit of nostalgia to downtown Guelph.

College Avenue West closure starts May 4

Heads up for drivers: College Avenue West will be closed between Gordon Street and Borden Street starting May 4. Plan an alternate route if you’re travelling through the area.

Open Stage at The Cornerstone

The Cornerstone is hosting Open Stage on Sunday, May 3 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It’s a relaxed local music option for anyone looking for something casual to do downtown.

Acoustic Saturdays at Benjamin’s Bodega

Benjamin’s Bodega has Acoustic Saturdays on May 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. — an easy weekend stop for coffee, food, shopping, and some live music.

Public Works Week Open House coming up

Looking ahead, Guelph’s Public Works Week Open House is coming up on May 23. It’s a family-friendly way to get a behind-the-scenes look at the city services, trucks, equipment, and crews that keep Guelph running.

Cafe of the Week

For anyone looking for a cozy spot to grab a coffee or bite to eat, this week’s spot of the week is The Loose Goose.

formerly known as The Common, this local café and eatery has a laid-back, welcoming vibe that makes it perfect for a casual breakfast, lunch, or coffee break. You’ll find a mix of comfort food, baked goods, and drinks, making it an easy go-to whether you’re meeting a friend or just stopping in while out and about. You can check them our here on their Instagram.
